Health Facilities !

Jhang is also equipped with basic health facilities for its citizens. There is District Headquarter Hospital (Civil Hospital) in Jhang and also Tehsil Head Quarter Hospitals in Chiniot, Shorkot and Ahmadpur Sial equipped with basic health facilities. It is a well built facility in the District of Jhang. It is sad to see that district headqurater hospital devoid of advance machinery.

Other then headquarters hospitals there are many other govt. and private hospitals.

These shawls come in all shades and design. These Pashmina shawls are best in quality and art work. The stitches used are simple stem, chain and darn. Lovely floral, faunal, bird and almond mot
ifs in imaginative color combinations, perfected over centuries are the hallmark of Jhang Shawls.

Woodworks:
Intricate fascinating wood carving in Arabesque or "Jali" has for long been associated with muslim culture. Chiniot is the heaven of all woodworks. The warm and soft quality of wood enabled the carpenters to exhibit beautiful craftsmanship. Artifacts such as wooden screens, tables, chests, boxes, and a host of other articles are of international renown. The design used are floral and fruit ensembles, almond and mango motifs.
Zaarban (Nara) and Paranda Making:

It is another one of Jhang's traditional craft in which women artisans are engaged. Zaarban (Nara) is usually a webbed lace measuring about 2 meters in length used for stringing pyjamas. The paranda is a three strand, colorful item edged with pom-poms, beads and sequins. It is used by women adorn their hair and enhance its length and beauty.

There are many places to visit in District Jhang, like Shahi Masjid at Chiniot, Head Tremu, Heer Tomb, Shorkot Ruins, Hazrat Sultan Bahoo (RA), Hazrat Shah Jewna (RA) and Sial Sharif.

Wazeer Mosque (Chiniot)

Chiniot, Jhang, became one of the most respectable personality due to his knowledge and intellectual approach, besides being a good physician who cured Nur Jehan and was given the title of Wazir Khan.

Artisans from Chiniot excelled in designing and assisted the construction & designing of Taj Mahal, The Golden Temple, Shahi Masjid at Chiniot. Nowadays, Chiniot is known for its carved
furniture.

Mehal Umer Hayat (Chiniot):

It is also known as Gulzar Manzil. This Mehal in the old centre of the ancient town of Chiniot(Distt. Jhang) is wrapped in mystery and silence. For long like the Taj Mehal it remained a melancholy monument to death and a symbol of tragic transience of life. Facing the Mughal Fort it was a celebrated edifice constructed from 1922 A.D to 1930 A.D at a phenomenal cost of four lac rupees (the present estimate about thirty million rupees). With a splendid ground floor and three storeys ( initially sixstoreyed including basement)topped by a wooden pavilion,it encapsulated the finest traditions of local wood, fresco, jali, glass, plaster and brick work. Each inch of its buiding, exterior and interior testifies to the skill and expertise of those master craftsmen.

The man whose dream was realized in such varied material was Sheikh Umar Hayat and he named it after his only child Gulzar Muhammad. Sheikh Umar Hayat belonged to a famous Sheikh family of Chiniot. He went to Calcutta for businesss and became the prominent trader over there. Then he married in Pindi Bhattian. God blessed him with a son and a daughter. But unfortunately he died before this grand vision could take full shape.Following its completion Gulzar Muhammad was married in 1937 A.D. The elderly citizens of Chiniot still remember that wedding with nostalgia, pride and sorrow. They say that so grand was wedding, that not only all Chiniot was invited but it was proclaimed that all, rich or poor who saw the smoke of cooking fires should consider themselves welcomed.

On the morning after the wedding ill-luck struck. Gulzar Muhammad died under mysterious circumstances. Some conjecture was that he was poisoned while others state that fumes from the bathroom coal-fire,to keep the water warm, asphyxiated him.The several days long festivity, cut short, now transferred into a funeral gathering.Gulzar Muhammad was buried in the middle of the courtyard below the opening to the sky. Some time later his fatally grieved mother,Fatima, followed. She was buried next to him.

Considered ill-omened by Gulzar's relatives this master piece of indigenous arts and architecture fell into disuse. The Mehal was left to the whims and the wiles of servants who illegally appropriated it and began to denude it of the fine wood work and wrought-iron features for sale.Gradually the building was reduced to a mere shell and abandoned to the mercy of man and the devastating effect of the turning seasons.

For some years the building was used as an orphanage and modified with a cluster of small structures and a donkey-pump was installed in the courtyard. The establishment of orphanage in this building took its terrible toll and this famed example of South Asian craftsmanship lost both the top story and the wooden pavilion which sat atop it like a crown.

Had it not been for the District administration, the Mehal would have vanished completely. On 7th June 1990 A.D it was decided by M.Athar Tahir D.C Jhang and Dr. Amjad Saqib A.C Chiniot that Gulzar Manzil be acquired for the people,be conserved and conservatively restored ,not completely renovated. It was also decided that it should be accorded a more dynamic role in the life of Chiniot. Thus the massive fund raising was initiated for its conversion into a library and a cultural centre and the museum. With help from philanthropists, interested agencies and a Municipal Committee,Chiniot.,the conversion efforts commenced on 14th August 1990 A.D.Keeping the vision and the wishes of its owner in view, the library in the Gulzar Manzil was named after Sheikh Umar Hayat.

The District admininstration decided that the work should be executed only by the local craftsmen, builders and experts all the finest available in their fields.M.A.T.

The museum should be made the centre of the Sandal Bar civilization between Ravi and Chenab. And the income obtained should be used for its decoration so that Mehal should be prevented from destruction.

CHENB

The first city of Jhang was built in 1288 by Rai Sial with the advice of Hazrat Shah Jalal Bukhari (his peer). The first ruler of Jhang was Mal Khan in 1462. Sial tribe ruled this city for 360 years and the last ruler of the Sial Tribe was Ahmad Khan from 1812 to 1822 and then Sikh took over. And from the rule of the Sikh, Jhang was taken over by the British.
Jhang is more famous for its men than for its products. The Jhangvi men are hardy peasants, healthy, tall, strong and of wheatish complexion. The dress of the locals comprises a Majhla, a Kurta or Chola, a Chadar and a Turban or Pugri. It is completed by shoes, Chappli or Kherri. The women are fair complexioned, cypress statured and good looking. The women also wear Majhla (Lungi) besides Chola and Dopatta but many women wear Shalwar Qameez. The people live in the plains and therefore are plain and straight-forward people - broad minded, hospitable and progressive. Jhang is the centre of a purely agricultural based feudalistic society. Agriculture is the chief source of income and employment in Jhang. About 85% of the Jhang's cultivable land is irrigated. Wheat and cotton are the principal crops. Other crops grown include rice, sugarcane, corn (maize), oilseeds, fruits, and vegetables. Livestock and poultry are also raised in large numbers in district Jhang.

HEAD OF MY JHANG

Jhang is characterised by extreme climate - the temperature is generally hot, with marked variations between summer and winter. In the plain the mean June temperature is 95 F (35 C), while the mean January temperature is 55 F (12 C). The monsoon reaches the area exhausted and therefore the rainfall is quite meagre. There is also occasional rain during the winters. The average annual rainfall is 7-10 inches (180 mm) in district Jhang. Occasionally there are dust storms. The summer may be somehow discomforting, but for the greater part of the year the climate is ideal and invigorating. The best part of the year is from the middle of February to the middle of April, which is the spring in the Jhang. It is neither cold nor hot but simply pleasant and enjoyable. The entire district-side becomes a vast stretch of greenery. The mustard fields are covered with yellow flowers, trees put on new leaves, fruits begin to blossom and there are flowers every where. This is also the time for several spring festivals, including Jhang Committee Show.
Jhang is connected by road or railway to some main cities of the country, but not any air service is provided by government yet.
